1 package of Oreo cookies, regular kind
1/4 cup melted butter
6 Almond Joy candy bars (1.5 ounce size)
1 ounce chocolate liqueur
1 package instant chocolate pudding mix OR 2 cups chocolate pudding
1 1/2 cups chocolate milk
1 cup Cool Whip
1/4 cup almond extract
Pull the Oreos apart, scrape off the filling, then crush the resulting chocolate wafers, either by hand
or in a blender.
Add the melted butter and mix well.Press into an 8-inch pie pan and bake at 375 degrees
for about 5 minutes.Let cool.
Make a chocolate pudding...if you're using a mix, substitute the chocolate milk for regular milk.
Add the liqueur.
Remove almonds from from Almond Joys and puree candy in a blender,or food processor,
adding a little more liqueur and almond extract.
Fold Almond Joy puree into pudding, then fold in Cool Whip.
Pour into Oreo shell, decorate with reserved almonds, chocolate side up,and chill several
hours before serving. Serves 6-8.
I wish I could claim credit for this recipe, but I got it out of the pages of JUNK FOOD,a 1980 book from Charles J. Rubin,Rick Stark and a host of other writers and artists;it's a collection of articles, illustrations and comics that take a sometimes-nostalgic-but-mostly-satirical look at eating in America. There's a great running narrative through the book about a 1983 World's Fair, one that occupies the entire state of Illinois, which was decimated by a bizarre fire.An equally unusual fate befalls the Fair, the organizers of which could have sinister motives.
Midway through the book is a collection of recipes concocted by Salvatore Bovoso and John Farago, all of which use some pre-packaged food in their creation.I tried making this once, and was genuinely pleased with the result....these days,of course, the internet is filled with recipes like this...I'd already posted this recipe in my journal at DeviantArt,but I decided to put it here as well.
